Writing for weight loss?
The idea for this
article came to me while pondering some goals in my life and
doing a bit of journaling.
How might the simple act of
writing help someone achieve weight loss goals? Several
ideas came to me and I invite you to write in and share some
of your own. This article is written to hopefully stimulate
ideas for your unique situation. Incorporate one or more of
them if they make sense to you. Anyway, I hope you
enjoy.
Writing about your
feelings around food may help you recognize patterns that
lock you into overeating or making unhealthy choices. Keep a
journal of your thoughts and feelings during your diet. Make
correlations between good days and bad days. Try to find
triggers that affect you positively or negatively.
Write down everything
you eat and how you feel afterwards. You may discover that
the pain experienced after eating certain things are not
worth the pleasure experienced from eating them.
If you have achieved
success or have even reached part of your goals…write down
how you did it as if you are attempting to teach someone who
was in the exact same situation as you. You can choose to
keep it private, post it on message boards for
encouragement, or even send it in to us for our
Success Stories section.
Writing publicly can
give you a feeling of accountability to act consistent with
your advice. I have found that most of us know what is good
for us – doing what is good for us is a whole different
story. I hope to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Bill
