A weight loss statistic that you can
change
According to this site:
http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/foodnut/09363.html :
“Approximately 50 million Americans go on a diet each year –
yet only 5 percent keep the weight they lose off.”
Problem: We think
of a diet as a painful 6 or 12 week eating plan we go on to
lose a set number of pounds; when (and if) the weight loss
goal is reached; we resume our old eating habits and gain
the weight back.
Solution:
Start thinking in terms of permanent lifestyle change,
portion control, and exercise. Learn food substitution –
where you substitute unhealthy foods for equally delicious
healthy foods.
Your lifestyle should
support your ideal weight. You can’t have a 200 pound
lifestyle and expect a 120 pound body.
Permanent lifestyle
change. A permanent lifestyle change does not have to be
painful. Find foods and activities that you enjoy (and are
healthy) and start working them into your life. I heard
someone say once that priorities in your life change – but
values are constant. You can rest assured that after
practicing a healthy lifestyle for a while it will become a
value in your life.
Portion Control.
Some people are fortunate enough that they can eat anything
they want as long as they control their portions. You may be
one of those people. Learn portion control and enjoy the
foods you love – fill up on the healthy foods. If I eat a
large salad before a meal I can be assured that a half a
hamburger is all I will need to fill me up. Start
incorporating healthy, calorie sparse foods into your life
and enjoy your favorites in a healthier portion.
Exercise. I
believe everyone can find at least one form of exercise that
they enjoy. Research different forms of exercise and find
one that excites you. When you look forward to exercising –
you can rest assured that you will exercise!
If you are determined to
go on a diet to lose weight then keep these tips in mind:
Shop for a diet like you
would a meal. In other words – don’t try to follow a diet
that recommends foods that you do not like. Find a diet that
suits your tastes and you will more likely stick with it and
succeed.
Shop for a diet that
teaches weight loss maintenance. Don’t become a statistic
like the one mentioned above. Your weight loss diet should
teach you how to maintain your weight loss and create a
lifetime of lean, healthy eating.
These are just a few
tips to help you maintain your weight loss. Let healthy
eating and a healthy lifestyle become a value in your life
and you will succeed in your weight loss (and weight
maintaining) goals!
I wish for you the best
of health!
