The magic weight loss pill
weight loss editorial
I just finished reading
an article about a new weight loss pill that was coming up
for FDA approval. The article indicated that doctors were
coming to the realization that the majority of people were
not going to change their behaviors – so a weight loss pill
may be their only answer.
The article even stated that some
doctors would reluctantly prescribe the pill because they
know that is the only way their patient would lose any
weight. The weight loss pill mentioned in the article was
not considered a miracle pill and although there are many
weight loss drugs on the market – a weight loss miracle pill
does not exist yet.
I started thinking –
what if this miracle weight loss pill existed? What if you
could eat anything you want, not exercise, and still
maintain a lean, sexy body? Just take the pill and then
don't worry – what then? I believe that one day this magic
weight loss pill will exist. We have such brilliant people
on this earth, and have made such great medical advances; it
seems that this miracle pill is more of a question of when
it will come to market and not if.
So let's fast forward
into the future. Let's revisit all of the people above who
absolutely would not change their eating and exercising
habits in order to lose weight. Now they are lean, happy,
and sexy. They can watch TV for hours every night, eat
anything they want, ride the lawn mower to the mail box so
that they don't have to walk, never go to the gym, and still
they are lean and sexy. But is there a price?
According to many
sources, the cost of inactivity is very high. Besides
obesity; inactive people may end up facing diabetes, heart
disease, hypertension, breast cancer, colon cancer,
premature death, depression, and anxiety. On top of all of
that, inactive people will probably have a hard time finding
energy to enjoy their spouse and children.
Maybe there will be
magic pills available that will wipe out the adult onset
diabetes, hypertension, and all the other side effects of
inactivity – or – maybe we could all just change our habits
a bit.
