Sauna Belt

The sauna belt makes sense in theory; Sweat around your tummy and lose inches.  Sauna belts are being sold on infomercials by tanned and toned people making it appear like a flat tummy is as easy as watching TV.

I decided to research the sauna belt by studying marketing material, message boards, user reviews and lastly – looking for studies done on the sauna belt’s effectiveness.

First off, the marketing material - One company says something very close to the following: “After using the sauna belt your metabolism will be boosted and you will lose pounds with a normal workout routine.” What? So does this mean if you participate in a “normal workout routine” and don’t wear the sauna belt – you won’t lose weight? Also, due to hygienic reasons, you cannot return the sauna belt if you are not satisfied. I can return a bottle of pills if I am not satisfied, heck says here on this bag of chips I can get my money back if I am not satisfied – but if I am not satisfied with the sauna belt….I am stuck with it because of “hygienic” reasons.

I like to go to sites with real user reviews. I know they are real because I have honestly reviewed products and have seen my reviews (good and bad) show up on the www for the entire world to see. That does not mean that there are not self-promoters that get on there and really give their own product a good review – but I digress.

If you see a product with all bad reviews – maybe you should think about it further before purchasing. That is all I am going to say about that.

I found the message boards to be very similar to the reviews – mostly negative.

What about studies on the sauna belt? Here it gets a little interesting. The makers of one brand of sauna belt submitted some tests to the ERSP after some anonymous consumer complaints.

One of the studies had 50 volunteers wearing the sauna belt for 50 minutes for 7 consecutive days. 89% of the volunteers decreased their belly size by 2.6 cm.

Conclusion: 50 minutes per day is a long time to be tethered to an electrical chord when you could be busy doing other things – like walking for example. My opinion would be that if you are headstrong on trying this type of product that you get a neoprene waist belt and use it while you exercise.

A neoprene waist belt is much cheaper and will get your stomach sweating in no time. Give it a try and share your results with us.
