Portion control for weight loss
For some people weight
loss can be as simple as practicing portion control. I think
it is safe to say that all of us could benefit from
practicing portion control.
Portion sizes are
getting larger and larger. Advertisements bombard us with
the “more food for less money” message.
Here are some ideas to
help you practice portion control:
Be mindful while you
are eating. Sounds kind of
“Eastern” but it is very valuable advice. Sometimes we are
so preoccupied with watching TV or other distractions that
we eat more than we intend. Not only that but we fail to
appreciate fully the taste of our meal. Slow down, savor
your meal and be mindful.
Get used to eating 5
or 6 small meals a day. Eating 5
or 6 small meals throughout the day will naturally cause you
to eat smaller portions and help keep your body constantly
nourished. Your metabolism will start craving the smaller
meals every 3 hours or so rather than craving the larger
meals a couple times per day.
Pay attention to the
suggested serving size. Serving
sizes listed on food labels can help you with portion
control. Most of the times we tend to eat more than the
serving size. Use a measuring cup or scale if needed.
Those are just a few
tips to get you started benefiting from portion control.
When you follow portion control; you will avoid that stuffed
feeling that leaves you with no energy and feeling
uncomfortable. Your stomach will be flatter and you will
feel lighter. Stay committed to portion control and you will
most likely lose weight, gain energy, and feel much better.
I wish for you the best
of health!
