Fitness and weight loss after forty
Being over forty has its
challenges. Our metabolism has slowed, joints hurt, muscles
are tight, bellies are bigger, and things like HDL and LDL
seem much more important now.
Given all of the above
calamities, you may be asking yourself if weight loss after
forty is possible or if fitness over forty is possible. The
answer to both questions is yes.
Perhaps you have
maintained some of your fitness or you have not gained much
weight – or – you may have trouble walking to the mailbox –
either way, it is time to realize that a complete lifestyle
change may be needed in your life. This is where most people
jump ship. Don't be one of those people!
When your goal is
fitness over 40 or weight loss over 40 – keep in mind that
it is time to let go of all of your old ideas of fitness and
health. Being over 40 brings with it special challenges and
precautions that you were probably not aware of in your
twenties or thirties. Now more than ever it is very
important to check with your doctor before starting an
exercise program or diet. I know people in their 40's, 50's
and well beyond who are in much better shape than people
half their age – but they worked smart, had a plan and
followed the plan.
One thing I have learned
recently (I am within 3 weeks of being 42) is that it is
more important for me now than ever to not take layoffs.
When I was younger, I could miss 2 weeks to a month of
working out and take up right where I left off. Now it seems
that any time I miss is much harder to make up and that I
tend to lose conditioning rapidly. Because of these reasons,
I am of the opinion that it is better to do a little bit
consistently than a whole lot sporadically.
Strength training,
weight loss, and fitness are all worthy goals for someone in
the over forty crowd. A personal trainer may be an option.
Keep in mind that a twenty year old personal trainer may not
realize the limits of an over forty person or realize the
rate at which an over forty person recuperates. Try to find
a personal trainer that is over 40 and knows your special
needs.
If a personal trainer is
not an option for you, consider this e-book compiled by
someone who totally turned his life around. He has an
amazing story that you can read about from the link below.
But even more important than that is that he has compiled
stories and education from over 50 men and women ages 40-80
who will inspire, motivate you and help you achieve fitness,
weight loss, and bodies that others only dream about. It is
very affordable and is risk free. Check it out here:
