Cravings and Yo-Yo Dieting

Cravings are very powerful and can sabotage your diet and healthy eating habits and lead to Yo-yo dieting.

As powerful as cravings are - they are usually not the result of hunger.

Being on a diet can be enough to cause cravings. Just knowing you are not supposed to have something can make you want it more.

Sometimes your cravings may be your body telling you what it needs. For example, a carbohydrate craving could possibly mean that you are experiencing low blood sugar.

Yo-Yo dieting is losing weight only to gain it back and then repeating the process. You can battle cravings and yo-yo dieting by following some guidelines:

bulletEat meals at regular times - Keeps blood sugar stable
bulletBe prepared with portable fruit, a nutrition bar, or a nutrition shake. Getting hungry past the point of no return can cause you to eat the first thing that comes in your path. (Usually a fast food meal) An apple or protein snack may hold you off until you can be more prepared for a healthy meal.
bulletDrink water
bulletIf you give in to a craving - Try portion control. Enjoy your craving 15 minutes after you have had a healthy snack. Who knows? The craving may pass.

A healthy lifestyle will help you escape the yo-yo dieting syndrome. Cravings and yo-yo dieting usually go hand in hand - Be prepared and you just may conquer both!

Wishing you the best of health,

Bill
