The Shaolin Workout Book review

28 Days to Transforming your body and soul the Warrior's way

At first glance one might think the Shaolin workout does not belong on a weight loss site; (see the related article Martial arts and weight loss) continue to read this book, and your eyes will be opened up to a new way of living.

The author, Shi Yan Ming, is in his early forties and has the body of a very fit twenty something. This way of life has created a presence for him that even crosses over to his writing. Every thing about him exudes energy, enthusiasm, and health.

This book will take you through a 28 day regimen that could quite possibly change your life forever. The exercises start basic and get more demanding. You will learn movements which will challenge you all the while increasing your speed, power and flexibility. The movements are clearly explained and beautifully photographed. It is clear to see that Shi Yan Ming is a master of his mind and his body. Reading this book and viewing the photographs helped me to realize that most of the so called limitations I have regarding my physical abilities are simply beliefs that can be changed. This Shaolin philosophy can easily be adapted to assist you in your weight loss goals.

The real value of this book for someone struggling to lose weight is the transformation of the mind that will take place as you read the book, do the exercises and perform the meditations. You will begin your journey to mastery over your mind and body. Do I believe that this book will give you complete mastery over your mind and body? Absolutely not - but I do believe that it will put you on a positive path and help open doors for future self-mastery and weight loss.

The book is not about fighting or self-defense. You will read about Buddhism and the warrior philosophy in a way that is non-threatening no matter what religion you follow.

This book could:

bulletMotivate you to find a local martial arts instructor and begin a lifelong journey of self-mastery which will lead to weight loss and health
bulletCause you to gain an interest in meditation or "action meditation" which will help you to be more mindful in all things thereby leading to weight loss and greater health

bulletCause you to be more in touch with your body

bulletExpand your mind and destroy mental limitations you have placed upon yourself

The enthusiasm that Shi Yan Ming communicates is contagious and will help you reach new levels in your self-development. New levels of confidence, enthusiasm, and energy can only help your weight loss efforts.

Will reading this book make you a Kung Fu master? Not hardly - but it will expand your mind and help you develop new beliefs about your body and what you are capable of accomplishing.

I recommend this book for anyone who is even remotely interested in the Martial Arts. If nothing else - this book will help you to clarify some criteria in your selection of a martial art before committing your money for lessons.

Wishing you the best of health,
Bill
