Seaweed Diet
I learned about the
seaweed diet by watching a local newscast and couldn’t wait
to write about it. Kanten, otherwise known as agar – is
pretty much dried seaweed.
It seems that this craze is very
popular in Japan right now – I recently read that the
popularity could be compared to our Zone Diet or Atkins
diet.
So what does the seaweed
diet do for you? It turns out that you can consume Kanten in
many different forms – but all of these forms contain a high
amount of fiber. This fiber swells in your stomach and makes
you feel full so that you will not eat as much.
I found one reference
where Japanese researchers were recommending that dieters
take Kanten mixed with juice before eating. It is important
with any fiber product that you get adequate fluid intake to
prevent the fiber from swelling and blocking your throat or
esophagus. Agar is rich in vitamins, minerals, and trace
minerals including iodine, calcium and iron.
If you are thinking of
trying kanten, I would certainly research it much more and
check with your doctor first.
Wishing you the best of
health,
Bill
