Core Performance Essentials

By Mark Verstegen and Pete Williams

I started this book thinking that I would learn something about core strength exercises and perhaps how to use a physioball.

Wow was I ever wrong! What I got was nutritional education, motivation, and a complete understanding of what core strength can really do for a body.

First off, Mark Verstegen really prepares the mind for change by teaching us how we are athletes in the game of life. He then goes on to describe the problems we are facing today. Among those problems are the fact that 400,000 people die each year from causes related to poor diet and physical inactivity! Mark clearly explains the consequences of poor diet and inactivity in a way that motivates you to change.

The nutrition portion of this book is packed with wisdom on how to maximize energy and lose fat. You will finish this chapter with a greater understanding of how often to eat, when to eat, and what foods to eat. Mark touches on all the major nutrients and then goes on to give shopping tips and even a comprehensive grocery list. There are some very nice recipes as well as ideas on how to stay prepared so that you posture yourself for success in your new nutritional plan. The nutrition portion of this book is worth the purchase price – it is jam packed with information – all communicated in a way that is easy to understand.

The core movement portion of the book starts by giving you an understanding of how important core fitness is. Even people who have followed traditional fitness methods for years and consider themselves in great shape will have a new understanding of core fitness.  Mark has an easy to understand starting point for any fitness level and he really works to change your mindset about fitness. Mark realizes that we are all busy and has designed this program to maximize the results on your 30 minute investment. The exercises have great explanations, easy to follow photographs, and little to no equipment is needed. You will have a good understanding of the red zone, yellow zone, green zone, movement prep, prehab, and strength circuit – and you will feel very comfortable with your starting point no matter what shape you are in.

The last part of the book is on regeneration and quality of time. Mark gives life planning tips and goal setting tips.  Mr. Verstegen comes across as very caring and understanding. He has a way of communicating that shows he sincerely cares about your health. Mark acknowledges your busy life in a very non-judgmental way and instead of chastising you for not making time to workout he shows you how you can do it with minimal invasion into your day.

Mark Verstegen knows how busy life can be and he understands the challenges that people have finding time to workout. He has designed a program that can be done in minimal time, with minimal equipment, but gives maximum results.

I finished this book with the feeling that Mark Verstegen truly was my coach and I highly recommend you read this book and allow Mark to be your coach.

Wishing you the best of health,
Bill
